3 Years Not Out

Updated: Sep 9

This weekend marks 3 years since Cribbes Photography was formed as a business having been simply a keen hobby up until that point. It's been an absolute roller coaster during that time and I've personally learned so much about running a business.

Some of my personal highlights have been supporting local charities and community organisations, publishing my first book, establishing a recognisable brand and sponsoring my boyhood clubs (Ross High Rugby and Hibernian Football Club) but most of all, it's simply seeing the look of surprise on peoples faces when you create an image that has something special about it.

All that being said, there have also been some challenges along the way and not just simply having a robust business plan to generate profit. Photography is a real art form and not easy to produce at the top level however as smartphones get better and better, the market for images is getting squeezed. Even weddings are now becoming more 'casual' and that is a photographers main bread and butter to make a living. Also people are consuming their art differently these days, people will skim an Instagram or Facebook feed for a few seconds and you have to capture the attention immediately so subtlety is also becoming less prevalent.

Although Cribbes Photography is a professional venture, I still retain my 'day job', which I love, and that has thankfully meant that I can grow the business without the financial pressures that a full time photographer has. That has never been more important than it is now with the COVID word we live in and I really do sympathise with photographers who rely on their craft to make a living.

I am still going strong after 3 years of business and am looking forward to the future. As with any artistic craft, you go through periods of inspiration and not. The last few months for me have been a bit flat in that department with no events taking place however I have been buoyed but a series of image sales to International magazines and websites so I'm sure as we return to 'normal', you'll see plenty of fresh images coming your way.

Thanks very much for all your ongoing support, there have been a series of people who have genuinely lent on to get to where I am today and they are noted on the site (or clicking here) however to everyone who reads my blog, likes my work on social media or simply has seen an image of mine which connects with them, I really do appreciate your support.

I've thought long and hard about this but there are my favourite 10 images I have taken in the last 3 years. I'd love to know what your favourites are.

Take care everyone, stay safe, and thanks for your continued interest and support.
